When is Mahashivratri in 2022

The day of Mahashivratri is considered very big for people of all Hindu religions. Mahashivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha of Falgun month. On this day all the devotees worship and perform aarti of Shiva with full devotion.

Why is Mahashivratri celebrated?

According to the Vedas, Puranas and scriptures, Lord Shiva first appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga on the day of Shivaratri. Since such a day, every year on the Chaturdashi date of the Krishna Paksha of Falgun month, all the Shiva devotees started celebrating the festival of Mahashivratri with great enthusiasm. According to some people, on this day Mata Sati was reborn as Mata Parvati. Mata Parvati wanted to have Mahadev Shiva as her husband and hence Mata Parvati did a lot of hard work and penance to please Lord Shiva. But Lord Shiva was not pleased, after which Mata Parvati did severe penance at Gauri Kund, a few kilometers away from Triyugi Narayan, and pleased Lord Shiva and after which Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati had an auspicious marriage. That’s why many girls keep a fast on this day for Lord Shiva and wish for a good husband for themselves.
